I can't remember the exact numbers, but I recently made a volatile hunter baton out of a gold heavy pick axe that had a base damage of around 2100 i think, crafting it into the VHB bumped the damage up some, then i put 4 clickers on it and it ended up having over 4500 damage. Its blueprint can be acquired at the start of the game through the Volatile. It doesn't really make any sense for you to be able to craft a baton out of a big heavy pick axe, but the game allows you to do it. Volatile Hunter Baton is a weapon modification that appears in Dying Light. One of the cool things I found out about the volatile hunter baton is that you can craft if from a pick and it keeps the really high damage stats but has the high handling of a baton so you can swing it faster than a big heavy pick axe.
I like the idea of using a bat, but have found that the bats I find or can buy don't really seem to have very high damage, even after upgrades. We do encourage original content, however.
